CBP has begun processing applications for the Global Entry Program for expedited entry clearance
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Though intended for frequent international travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify for the program. All travelers must be pre-approved for the Global Entry program. All applicants undergo a rigorous background check and interview before enrollment.
How will it work?
The application is done via online registration. Once a completed application is certified by the applicant and the non-refundable payment is successfully processed, CBP will review it and determine whether or not to conditionally approve the application. If your application is conditionally approved, your account will be updated to instruct you to schedule an appointment for an interview.
Every individual who would like to apply for membership – children included and multiple applicants in one household – must create a separate account, submit a separate application, and schedule a separate interview appointment upon conditional approval.?? Once you are approved for the Global Entry Program, upon arrival in the U.S., you would proceed to the Global Entry kiosks at the airport, present your machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place your fingertips on the scanner for fingerprint verification, and make a customs declaration. The kiosk will issue you a transaction receipt and direct you to baggage claim and the exit.
The Final Rule for the Global Entry Program will become effective on March 7, 2012.
